I took the high altitude balloon tracking system out for a test drive in my truck. The intent was to test everything, but especially the transmitter and homemade antenna. After a short drive I was picked up by a nearby antenna (about 1.5 miles away) and my location showed up on APRS.fi. See the screenshot below. I also ended up with a log file showing my entire route and lots of sensor data. A few more tests and I’m ready for launch!
Also, I’ve decided on a name for my upcoming flight: SUFO-1 or Stratospheric Unidentified Flying Object. It will make its way up into the stratosphere and it’s likely nobody will know what the hell is floating over their heads.
